MITCHELL Coombes was handed his first deck of tarot cards at the age of 12 and has been reading them ever since.

A fifth-generation psychic he conducts up to nine readings a day as well as answering questions via sms and from those who approach him in the street.

"You don't really ever stop working. It's a 24/7 thing," Coombes said.

Based at his shop in Cardiff, Coombes approaches his psychic readings in much the same way as he approaches life with loads of enthusiasm and optimism.

He believes the best part of his job is helping people.

"When I see I've touched someone's life and helped them overcome an obstacle . . . I find the experience very gratifying.

"I love to see people shining when they walk out my door."

Coombes shot to prominence as a disciple of Australia's most famous white witch, Fiona Horne of rock band Def FX. He has established his profile with regular appearances on local radio, NBN morning program Today Extra and through his own website.
